In conjuction with Soul of the New Machine, the Human Rights Center is proud to co-present The Reckoning directed by Pamela Yates, at the 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival – April 23 to May 7, 2009.

The Reckoning follows International Criminal Court Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo, Senior Trial Attorney Christine Chung and Deputy Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda’s efforts to prosecute the criminals most likely to get away with horrific crimes against humanity, whether in the Congo, Uganda, Colombia or Darfur. This is a daunting task for an organization that has no police force and must depend on its member states to honor arrest warrants. Through accounts offered by victims, ICC lawyers and advocates and at least one active opponent of the ICC, director Pamela Yates has created a fascinating and often heartening account of the pursuit of justice and its effect, direct and indirect, on the murderers who formerly believed they could act with impunity. – Pamela Troy
The film screens on May 3 at 5:30PM and on May 6 at 6:15PM at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas; on May 5 at 6:00PM at the Pacific Film Archive.
